Metro Transit will hold a series of public meetings in September 2026 to go over potential service changes to Routes 3, 24, and 94, as well as some changes to fare payment types. If changes are approved by Metro’s Board of Directors, they would begin on Sunday, December 13th.

Staff will hold four (4) meetings available to riders and other members of the community. Two (2) of the meetings will be virtual, one held in English and one held in Spanish. Both virtual meetings will begin with a brief presentation to go through the proposed changes with remaining time being reserved for any questions or comments. The in-person meetings will be held in an open-house format without a formal presentation.

At all of the meetings, members of the public will be able to ask any questions and submit their comments on the proposed changes. There will also be opportunities to submit comments through a web form below, email, social media, and physical mail. Information on how to send those is at the bottom of the page.

In-person Meeting Materials:

Summary of proposed changes:

Route 3:

  • Metro Transit is proposing to increase evening weekday service so buses arrive every 30 minutes beginning around 7:15 p.m.

Route 24:

  • Metro Transit is proposing to increase daytime weekday and Saturday service, so buses arrive every 15 minutes during the day along the route north of the MCC South Transit Center.
  • Metro Transit is proposing to decrease service south of the MCC South Transit Center. Buses would arrive every 30 minutes throughout the day on weekdays and Saturdays.
  • Metro Transit is proposing to add 30-minute evening service on weekday evenings. Buses would arrive every 30 minutes starting around 6:45, through the end of service.

Route 94:

  • Metro Transit is proposing to add service along the route, with one trip added in the morning, 30 minutes after the current trip, and one trip added in the early evening, 30 minutes before the current evening trip.

Express Route paper tickets:

  • Metro Transit is proposing to eliminate paper tickets for express routes. Riders will be able to pay with a Umo card, Umo mobile app, or with cash on board. The $1.50 express fare would stay the same.

30-Day Passes:

  • Metro Transit plans to discontinue the paper 30-day pass. This decision was made in 2021. The current Umo fare-capping program will take the place of the paper pass. With fare-capping, riders are able to pay for their rides one at a time through a Umo card or app. Once they reach $55 in fare payments (or $27.50 if eligible and signed up for half-fare) within a calendar month, the system stops charging for rides for the rest of the month. The last day to purchase a 30-day paper pass will be December 31, 2026. The last day to activate a 30-day pass and get a full month’s worth will be June 1, 2027. The last day a rider will be able to board using a paper 30-day pass will be June 30, 2027.

Replacement Umo card fee:

  • Metro Transit plans to charge $2 for replacement Umo cards. Riders would still be able to get their first Umo card without a cost. In 2021, Metro Transit’s Board of Directors approved a $2 fee for all cards. The replacement fee will begin on January 1, 2027. Metro Transit reserves the right to implement a fee for all Umo cards, as originally approved, at a later date.

More info:

The same information will be presented at all meetings. The meetings will follow an informal structure. Information about the proposed service changes will be presented visually through a presentation (virtual) and paper handouts and displays (in-person) and verbally in English or Spanish through dialogue, comments, and questions. Children are welcome to attend but must remain under the supervision of a guardian. Children’s activities will be available in the same area as the public meeting during the in-person meetings.

Definition of a major service change:

Metro’s current Major Service Change Policy goes into effect when there is an addition and/or elimination of a bus route, a 10% or more addition or reduction in system revenue miles, and/or a 15% or more addition or reduction in revenue miles on any individual route. Revenue miles are the miles when the bus is in service and passengers can be on board.
If any proposed service changes meet or exceed these thresholds, Metro conducts a Title VI service equity analysis to assess for disparate impact based on race and disproportionate burden based on income.
