MOBY
Get Around with MOBY
MOBY is Metro’s shared, ADA complementary paratransit service for people who cannot access our conventional, fixed-route bus network due to a disability or disabling health condition. You must be a registered client to use our MOBY service.
MOBY service mirrors the geographic areas, days and hours of our fixed-route bus network, within ¾ mile of each fixed route and a ¾ mile radius at the ends of each route. Changes to fixed-route service level (routing, days or hours) will have the same effect on MOBY’s complementary paratransit service.
- For example, if a fixed route has its service level increased and/or a new fixed route added, the same service level increase would be mirrored by MOBY.
- Likewise, if a fixed route has its service level reduced and/or discontinued, MOBY service will reflect the same reduction and/or discontinuance as the fixed-route network.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is MOBY?
MOBY is Metro’s shared, ADA complementary paratransit service for people who cannot access our conventional, fixed-route bus network due to a disability or disabling health condition. You must be a registered client to use our MOBY service.
Are face coverings required to ride MOBY?
Masks are recommended when riding Metro buses and MOBY paratransit and to access Metro facilities, including transit centers, ORBT Stations, bus shelters, and Metro’s office.
Masks are no longer required on public transportation after a court ruling on April 18, 2022. The CDC continues to recommend that people wear masks in indoor public transportation settings at this time.
What disinfectant does Metro use to clean MOBY vehicles?
Metro understands that the use of some disinfectants may impact riders with chemical sensitivities. To help riders plan their travel and understand what to expect on board, the disinfectant that Metro currently uses is listed here:
- Betco pH7Q, a one-step disinfectant, germicidal detergent, and deodorizer, containing didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride, n-Alkyl (C14 50%, C12 40%, C16 10%) demethyl benzyl ammonium chloride, and other inert ingredients
Am I eligible for MOBY?
Prospective MOBY clients must download and complete an ADA application to determine eligibility. You may also call 402-341-0800, ext. 2105 for assistance.
- Clients may meet the ADA eligibility criteria with respect to some trips but not others. In that case, clients would be ADA paratransit eligible only for those trips for which they meet the criteria.
- Clients may be ADA paratransit eligible on a seasonal basis or on the basis of a permanent or temporary disability.
What does it cost to ride MOBY?
MOBY costs $2.50 to ride. A MOBY client’s Personal Care Attendant (PCA) rides for free, and a Companion pays the full MOBY fare. Both the PCA and Companion must have the same origin and destination as the MOBY client.
Does the new, contactless Umo fare payment system work with MOBY?
Yes! Umo readers are located on board all MOBY vehicles. If you’re paying with the Umo app or smart card, the system will recognize that you are boarding a MOBY vehicle and deduct the $2.50 fare from your account.
How do I schedule a MOBY trip reservation?
MOBY trip reservations are made for next-day travel and can be made up to 14 days in advance.
- Metro’s Customer Service Schedulers (CSS) will advise a MOBY client if their trip’s origin, destination and/or requested travel times are within the fixed-route transit network.
- The CSS will assist the MOBY client in determining if there is an alternate travel time to complete the desired MOBY trip. The CSS cannot require an ADA paratransit eligible individual to schedule a trip to begin more than one hour before or after the individual’s desired departure time.

What is MOBY’s service area?
MOBY provides complementary paratransit service to origins and destinations within corridors with a width of three-fourths of a mile on each side/end of each fixed route.
Note: Express Routes do not qualify for the MOBY service area.

MOBY is available during the same hours and days as Metro’s fixed-route transit network. While there are no trip purpose restrictions, Metro’s fixed-routes run at different hours and frequencies, which may impact MOBY operating hours.

Metro’s Accessible Travel Options

Our stations, stops and vehicles have accessible features to make getting to your destination easier. We provide special services and accommodations for those who can’t use our fixed-route buses.
100% ADA Accessible Fleet
Metro’s bus, ORBT and MOBY fleets are ADA accessible. Every bus has wheelchair/mobility device access and accommodates seating for two wheelchairs. Buses can “kneel” (lower approximately 12 inches) for easier boarding. If you’d like the bus to kneel, just ask the operator when the front door opens.
