Effective Sunday, May 23rd, Metro will introduce modified service schedules on select routes in response to staffing challenges around the COVID-19 pandemic and changing ridership patterns.

Service changes, which include adjustments to arrival frequency on four routes and late-night service on 11 routes, will apply mostly to weekday service. MOBY service reflects the days and times of Metro’s fixed-route service, and availability will be adjusted accordingly.

Route-specific details regarding the service changes can be found in Metro’s 5/23/21 Service Changes Rider Alert

“We are not immune to what the nation is facing regarding the driver shortage and surge of retirements around the pandemic,” said Metro’s CEO, Lauren Cencic. “These service changes are an opportunity to establish a schedule we can consistently deliver, and we will continue to operate as much service as possible within our current budget and staffing levels.”

Metro is actively seeking bus and paratransit operators, maintenance technicians, and administrative staff.

“Metro services are part of the fabric of Omaha, and our staff are stewards to the city,” said Cencic. “We are looking for applicants who are interested in serving the public, helping people navigate the city, and contributing to our mission of connecting people, places, and opportunities.”

Metro offers generous wages, benefits, and opportunities for advancement.  Interested applicants should visit Metro’s Careerlink page.
