Metro to continue MetroNEXT planning with virtual meetings

Next week, Metro Transit will begin hosting virtual meetings to continue its strategic planning initiative, MetroNEXT, which aims to outline a path toward enhanced public transit for the region. Through these meetings, Metro will be seeking input from the public to help create the MetroNEXT Plan, which will guide transit improvements over the next 10 years.
“The landscape of our city continues to change, and the pandemic has illuminated the importance of a safe and dependable transit system,” said Metro’s CEO, Lauren Cencic. “With MetroNEXT, we’re collaborating with our community to shape a more connected region. Starting next week, we will explore topics that our riders care about and discuss how to improve their experience.”
The meetings will focus on five topics in the coming weeks with the goal of presenting transportation enhancement scenarios for public input early next year. The first three topics will include:
- Rider amenities, including bus stops and shelters, benches, technology, passenger information, and more
- Bus routes and schedules, including how often buses arrive, how early or late buses run, and where bus routes are located
- The rapid transit network, including a recap of Metro’s next priority corridor study and future ORBT lines
Meetings for the remaining two topics will be published as those dates approach. Topics will include:
- Fare payments and policies, including Metro’s contactless Umo system, fare structure, transfers, and more
- New types of service, including the exploration of new service types, which include options like vanpool or on-demand transit options to expand service across the region
